Update your BRAINS

Due to the Laneway Festival being on March 02 2008 and I think it might suck some vital rocketcar peeps into it’s vortex (like me) we’re shifting rocketcar day to Sunday March 09 2008. This means we’ll have one more week to train our hamster drivers and extract rare oils from seals to grease the wheels of doom.
So tell your mom, tell your friends and tell your brain to forget everything it knew about the old, stupid date and update it’s info with the new, much improved day of Sunday March 09 2008.

Go team.

I think the time has come for another Rocketcar Day (announcement)

Let’s cast our minds forward to March 09 2008 when we will be huddled together protecting ourselves from an onslaught of high-end engineering marvels.
I think the theme for this year, being the tenth rocketcar day is taking the cars to the next level. I’m talking being able to re-run old winners, I’m talking giving people enough time to properly build and test their cars.

So, strap down your bowels and look to the future. Because another Rocketcar Day is headed our way.

Look for more (maybe less) at http://www.rocketcarday.com/

Tell you friends to sign up to the list by emailing me here

Take that other worlds

Emotional Montage of the day

Thanks Mark Pesce for putting together this tear-inducing montage of the day. What this year lacked in cars that go "forward" we certainly made up in in fun and danger. See you all next year.

While in theory, everyone wins at rocketcar day. In fact, there is only one real winner. And that is these 2 people.

Go Multicar! and multicar movie

What's better than a picture of a multicar launch? a movie.

This car raced twice. The first time seperated from it's engine, which headed directly to where i was, moments ago at high speed. The next time kept it's engine on, headed straight into thecrowd and drew blood.

A good range of cars came out to play. Below, Unknown, Bunny and Panda Removal Car

A dangerous, wonderful Day

Thanks for everyone coming out yesterday. I think we got the least far, distance-wise but emotionally gained a lot of ground.

rcd 9 : one life to live

Hola People,
Hold onto your bowels, I'm glad to announce RocketCar Day 9 will be taking place Sunday July 15th.

I will be sending out numerous reminders and updates obviously, but in the mean time get your new car concepts bubbling away, and reassure your parents you're fine but are too busy to visit on the weekend, so get off your back.

Also, while not fending off over concerned relatives, send me the emails of anyone else who should be on the mailing list for these exciting updates.

After doing that, why not send some photos from rocketcar day 8 so you’re not to ashamed when 9 rolls around that you haven’t sent them yet. (hello at rocketcarday.com)

Anyhoo, book it in: Sunday July 15th.

TBA: theme, new crazy rules, who’s making a BBQ.

The Rules

The Rules Yeah

What are the rules?
The first rule of rocketcar day is "there are some rules"
- You have to make your own car (attaching a rocket to an existing model car is frowned upon)
- The cars are powered only by C size engines (these are about the size of your thumb)
- They have to be safe(ish) to race. A good way to find out if your car is safe, is to test it. you learn alot when there's a rocketcar bearing down on you.

There will be the following events:
Distance race (individually launched)
Top 10 showdown (10 cars race at once)
Judging will be based on distance and style points (the stupider the car the better)
Cars that are too light won’t be allowed to race, because they’ve been shown to tend to fly into people’s heads.

Rules and Guidelines

testing: You can learn alot about how good your theories regarding rocketcar design are from watching your creation pickup and fly out of contol towards someone. if you can : test your car. That said, there are 2 race categories. one for tested cars and one for first run cars.

General: while you can make anykind of car, sticking wheels onto a rocket will incurr some sort of shame demerit.
similarly, sticking a rocket onto a car is equally subject to frowning.

Materials: Whatever, In the interest of safety please ensure that metal components are kept to a minimum and as safe as possible.

Weight: avoid vey light cars. they are pronbe to spin around and shoot into the spectators and innocent bystanders.

Body shapes: Up to you but not just a single body tube. The event demands something interesting to look at and shapes aimed at aerodynamics solely will be frowned upon and may not be laughed at and drowned. Formula One style, saloon car, land speed record types, all types welcome. Plus anything new you can come up with. You have to make your own chassis (lego is totally acceptable, but glue it as well)

Motor types: C size rockets only in the race. Whatever the delay you like. C6 rockets seem to be cool. Only one motor to be used. No clustering or staging. You can buy them from hobby shops if you look trust worthy (swarthy types, trim beards first). These fit into a Romeo y Julieta no 3 cigar case nicely.

Wheels: Three at least but more are permissible and all must be in contact with the ground on the start line and every effort must be made to keep all on the ground during the run. A car, which is bouncing and/or whose wheels are leaving contact with the track too much, at the judges discretion, will be banned. The wheels can be inside or outside of the car body. The car must end up on all 4 wheels.

Remote Control : is not allowed due to it working one year.

Gyroscopic control : is allowed due to it never having worked yet.

woo hooooo etc.
